Announcing the Ross Award, New for 2020 Season

The Very Useful Theatre Company has had upwards of 95 plays submitted for the 2020 Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays, on stage this September at the historic Old Town Hall theatre.

The Ross Award will go to the top emerging playwright who has submitted his or her play for this prestigious Festival and Award. The Ross Award is named after the late Ross Bayley, who along with John Dowson, formed the Very Useful Theatre Company in 1993. Ross Bayley was involved in theatre in Newmarket and many years and even opened a small theatre on the Main St., called, ‘Theatre on Main.’

Dowson is heading up the Festival Artistic Committee (FAC) for this year’s three-day affair, put on by the Very Useful Theatre Company, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Newmarket.

Along the lines of an Oscar, or Grammy, the ‘Ross Award’ represents the very best of emerging plays and awards the playwright internationally.
