Announcing the Season for the 2023 Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays

Thursday Sept 7 – Show time 8:00 pm – (Doors open 30 minutes prior to shows)

That Thing With Feathers – a comedy written by Steven Doloff from New York, N.Y.- A young woman’s trials and tribulations encountered while submitting work to short play festivals.

One Night Stan – a comedy written by Adam Szudrich from Sydney, Australia – Three women recount their dates with Stan, simultaneously in rat-a-tat barrage of lust, self doubt and questionable dance moves. A comedy about seeing the same things through very different eyes.

Shapes & Stanzas – A One Act “Geometrilogy” written by Ken Preuss from Oviedo, Fla – Follows a friendship between childhood sweethearts, often from afar, spanning 60 years. Will they or won’t they?

Friday Sept 8 – 8:00 pm

I Miss You Already – A one person play – a powerful romance written by Rose Scollard from Calgary, Alberta, Canada – During a health tragedy may not be the best time to break up. Or is it?

What Do They Want? A Dramedy written by Cary Pepper from San Francisco, Ca – On the 6 th-floor rooftop terrace of a library, BURT encounters GARY, who’s muttering “Who are they? Why are they there? What do they want?” as he stares down at the street below. It doesn’t take Burt long to conclude that Gary is thinking of jumping, and he does his best to stop him. Or is something entirely different going on here? And if it is, what will Burt do about that?

Sat Sept 9 – Matinee – 2PM

Stray Cats – Dramedy by Derek Groulx from Toronto, Canada – Two homeless indigenous friends order breakfast in an unusual location. But what’s on the menu?

The Actress – By Ryan Kaminski – A mystery. An ex-employer is being blackmailed by her disgruntled employee and takes a ferry ride to discuss it. But is everything as it seems?

Sat Sept 9 – Evening Show – 8:00 pm

Provenance – a comedy written by Ian Patrick Williams from Studio City, California – A near-homicidal art collector confronts the forger whose painting he bought at auction.

get it off yer chest – A comedy by Jordana Belaiche from London, England, U.K. – A sleep paralysis demon comes to visit a young lady and does not get the reaction it expects. What then is a demon to do!

Sunday Sept 10 Matinee – 2pm

V.U.T.C. Young Company Presents – Phone Booth – Hair Theory – Happily Never After ( musical) – Plays written, directed and Acted by the Young Company. Supervising Director, Kira Rosenbloom.
