The Very Useful Theatre Company is a not-for-profit organization, the goal of which is to utilize theatrical performances to encourage and facilitate the performing arts.

We’d like to turn Newmarket into a regional hub for Live Theatre – giving young actors the opportunity to develop their skills and gain exposure, and boosting local tourism to help our community.
Our Story
How We Got Started
The Very Useful Theatre Company was formed in 1993 thanks to Founder Ross Bayley and John Dowson with “theatre helping the community itself.” They have produced a number of projects, the One-Act Festival of Plays being their most successful.
Where We Are Now
In addition to The One Act Play Festival, we’ve produced a number of productions in collaboration with local charities.

The prestigious Very Useful Theatre Company is presenting the Newmarket Festival of One-Act Plays at the elegant Old Town Hall in the heart of historic downtown Newmarket. As you can imagine, a lot of manpower is needed to host this annual festival. The Very Useful Theatre Company is looking for volunteers to help with our planning committee and actually get involved in the actual running of the One-Act Play Festival.
For people wanting to get involved in theatre, or just looking to spend a few hours doing something completely different, this is a perfect opportunity to get involved. If you are a student, adult or senior we need you!
