We had to delay a year! The Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays was supposed to take to the stage at the prestigious Old Town Hall in September of 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been moved to May, 2021. Despite no live performances, the Very Useful Theatre Company was quite busy planning the Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays – receiving more than 130 one act plays worldwide to read through and whittle down to the best eight plays for the 2021 Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays. Yes, Carl and Ida will be back in two short one act plays by skilled Hollywood writer Jim Geoghan and Newmarket native Rod Urquhart has written a splendid children’s play for our Young People’s Theatre, which will be presented on the Saturday of the scheduled run May 4, 5, and 6. The Very Useful Theatre Company has selected eight plays from over 130 entries into the Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays, by seven playwrights coming from worldwide – this includes more tales of Carl and Ida by famed Hollywood writer Jim Geoghan and also a play centering on the Holocaust by skilled playwright Adam Szudrich of Australia.
